JULY 1, 2005 — Jacob Brochtrup, a recent graduate of Westlake High in Austin, lost his right leg when a boat driver put a vessel into reverse, sending Jacob into Lake Austin near Emma Long Metropolitan Park. The propeller caught the top of Jacob’s right leg, twisted it around and nearly severed it completely off. Later, to save his life, doctors amputated the leg.
